Families today need heroes who pray, serve, suffer, and die fearlessly. Join us at the 2024 Men’s Gathering to learn how the martyrs of the early Christian church still preach to us with their lives, their lips, and their blood. Martin Luther called martyrdom the “pattern of the true Christian life.” Men who attend this year will learn this pattern and will be encouraged by the martyrs to joyfully face persecution, suffering, and even death. You will hear the great crowd of witnesses cheering you on as you run the race of life to meet Jesus at the finish line.
Pastor Bryan Wolfmueller is pastor of St. Paul and Jesus Deaf Lutheran Churches in Austin, TX. He is the author of Lord, Teach Us to Pray (2023), Take They Our Life: Martin Luther’s Theology of Martyrdom (2019), A Martyr’s Faith for a Faithless World (CPH, 2019), Has American Christianity Failed? (CPH, 2016) and Final Victory: Contemplating the Death and Funeral of a Christian (CPH, 2010). He is host of What-Not, The Podcast, posts videos on YouTube, and has a number of other theological projects that all end up on his blog. Bryan is a member of the Doxology Collegium. He and his wife Keri live with their children in Round Rock, TX.
Special Sessions & Activities
In addition to the keynote sessions, we have many other sessions of which you may take advantage. You will have opportunity to sign up for these optional small group sessions during check in on Friday night.
If you choose to not participate in these sessions, you can spend this time relaxing in God’s creation. We have attempted to build this retreat schedule so that everyone can get what they need out of their time at camp. We desire that you do what you need to do in order to be refreshed and brought closer to God.
Eat Like a King
You certainly won’t go hungry this weekend. To give you a glimpse of one of our special meals, we will prepare a whole hog and smoke it on a rotisserie roaster for 20+ hours until it literally falls apart and onto your plate!
Gathering Quest/Challenge
Each year, we join together in a Medieval Challenge, Gathering Quest, or the like which brings you together with your fellow men to compete in feats of skill, wit, strength, and determination. This is always a great time to bond with your brothers.
Mini Golf Tournament
We have regularly held a miniature golf tournament at Camp Lakeview’s mini-golf course on Friday afternoon. See if you can become a champion at the challenging nine hole course.
Bass Fishing Tournament
Enjoy Lake Wehmeier, the 10 acre lake at the Villages, which has been stocked with some very nice bass.
3G Activities
If you decide to extend your stay at camp by arriving Thursday night or by coming Friday morning, we will be offering additional activities for your enjoyment and manly fellowship. All 3G activities will be completed by 3pm on Friday afternoon so that anyone interested in participating in the Mini Golf Tourney will be able to do so. All Participants for the 3G activities will meet at the Lakeview Villages Lodge on Friday morning at 9:00 for orientation and departure to the selected 3G activity. Please note that the $20 charge for these extended activities covers the cost of breakfast and lunch on Friday. We will not cover additional costs associated with these activities (gun rental, ammunition, course fees, transportation, etc.). These costs will be covered by participants. You are only able to select one of these 3G extended activities.
Gun Range
Join us as we travel to a local shooting range for “Fellowship and Firing”. Please do not bring your own guns this weekend. The firearms will be provided, but the costs of the ammunition and range fees will be in addition to your retreat registration and will be paid directly to the shooting range. An orientation for the Gun Range will be conducted at the Lakeview Villages Lodge at 9:00 am on Friday Morning. Participation at the gun range is dependent on your completion of this orientation. We will release more information as we finalize the details for this event.
Golf Outing
Join us as we travel to a local golf course for “Fellowship and Driving”. This may involve personalized instructions, driving range practice, or a round of golf depending on how the weather is treating us at that time of the year. Any costs related to this activity will be paid by the participant to the golf course and will be in addition to the retreat registration fees. We will release more information as we finalize the details for this event.
Giving Back to Camp
Join us as we work together in “Fellowship and Serving”. This activity will allow us to give back to camp by completing a servant project on site at Lakeview. There is no additional fee for this project as all project costs will be covered by Lakeview. Just give of your time and enjoy the fellowship of fellow servants. We will release more information as we finalize the details for this event.
